Accident with Entrapment, 100W & 600N… 12-25-2011

At 5:13 p.m. on Christmas Day, Station 30 was called out to the site of a single-vehicle accident on CR 100W just south of 600N. Rescue 35, Battalion 30, Engine 32 and Engine 31 all responded, with a total of 12 FVFD crew on-site.

The vehicle, a Ford Taurus with four passengers, was on its side with its roof near a tree. Responders worked quickly to stabilize and gain access to the interior of the vehicle and to begin extrication of the occupants. The first extrication was accomplished just 20 minutes after the team arrived on-scene, including stabilizing the vehicle, cutting the roof and extricating the victim, and the second extrication was accomplished just eight minutes later. Complicated positioning caused the final extrication to take a little longer, with completion just short of an hour after arriving on-scene.

Two occupants were transported by ambulance to Community in Anderson and then later transferred to Methodist in Indianapolis via helicopter, one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the final occupant was transported from the scene via helicopter to St. Vincents in Indianapolis.

Assisting at the scene were Frankton Ambulance 1 & 3, Rural Metro Medic 412, Anderson FD Medic 1 & 3, Richland FD fire and ambulance, the StatFlight air ambulance from PHI, along with Madison County Sheriff’s Dept. and Madison County EMA.
