Wednesday morning at 10:34, a call came in for a trash truck rollover on West County Road 500N, west of CR 600W. Battalion 30 and Rescue 35 responded, along with Frankton Ambulance and the Sheriff’s Dept., and found a Manifold Refuse truck upside-down in a ditch on the north side of the road between 700W and 800W. The driver had minor injuries and his crew member was uninjured. Both were out of the vehicle when personnel arrived on-scene.
Hydraulic oil was leaking from a tank on the now-upper surface of the truck and pooling in the truck’s frame. FVFD personnel assessed the situation and applied absorbent material to contain the leak. Grass 36 was called to bring additional absorbent, and the HazMat unit was requested and arrived from Richland Township FD with more absorbent.
FVFD personnel remained on-scene until the truck was extracted from the ditch and a clean-up contractor was on-site to clean up the remainder of the approximately 10 gallons of hydraulic oil that was spilled. All units returned to service by 2:30 p.m.
Thanks to Asst. Chief Jason LeMaster for taking over camera duty when I had to leave before the wreckers arrived!
